Children

All of the Northwest Georgia Regional Libraries welcome children! We classify the “children’s” age group as birth – 12 years of age.

Our children’s materials are fit for all ages, ranging from “Easy” picture and leveled readers to “Juvenile” chapter books and kids movies. We always recommend that caregivers assist their kids in choosing reading and viewing materials if there are any concerns about content. To find children’s materials, check out the Children’s Department of each library.

Children’s Spaces

All of our libraries have Children’s spaces available. In the Children’s Departments, we welcome the sounds of laughter, joy, and learning in the library, so these areas might be a little louder than other sections of the library. Types of materials for checkout include board books, picture books, leveled readers, chapter books, non-fiction, audiobooks, movies, and music.

Inside the Children’s Departments, we have tables and chairs that are just the right size for children so that they can read, color, and play with the puzzles and games that are available. There is also seating for adults, as we ask that caregivers keep children under the age of 12 with them at all times.

All of our branches have wireless internet, and there are outlets in each of our Children’s Departments to make it easy for caregivers to get some work done while keeping an eye on their children. We provide computers for adults and older children, and AWE touchscreen computers with fun learning activities for younger children. Each AWE is designed for children from ages 2-8 and does not connect to the Internet to help provide an age-appropriate place for kids to explore technology. Activities on the AWEs include math, science, social studies, reading, phonics, and more.
