3D Printing

The Dalton-Whitfield County Public Library offers 3D printing using a Lulzbot Taz 6 3D printer. Use of the printer requires a 3D printing class or training with the IT staff at the library. Several PLA filament colors are available. Printing costs $0.20/gram of material used. Contact the library for more information.

Computer & Internet Access

We offer free access to the internet through our public computers as well as through wireless hotspots. A library card is required to use our public computers. Express computers have a time limit of 30 minutes, and the time cannot be extended. All other computers have a time limit of 1 hour, and that time can be extended as long as no one else is waiting.

Headphones with a standard headphone jack are required for audio. You are welcome to bring your own, or you can purchase a disposable pair from the library for $2.00.

For your protection, files cannot be saved permanently to the computers. Please bring a USB Flash Drive or the information for your cloud storage to save files. USB Flash Drives are available for purchase for $5.00.

Chrome computers tend to be faster and are ideal for users with Google Drive or Office365 accounts. Windows PCs are slower and are ideal for users who need to download files or programs, use Microsoft Office, or use browsers other than Chrome. Not sure which computer to use? A staff member can help!

Printing is available from library computers. It is not currently available from wireless internet.

Wireless access is easy. Ask for the password at the front desk at Calhoun-Gordon and Chatsworth-Murray. No password is required at Dalton-Whitfield.

Computer Classes

Dalton-Whitfield and Calhoun-Gordon offer computer classes each month. Classes are free and open to the public. To make it easier to follow along, laptops with Microsoft Office 2010 are available, but you’re welcome to bring your own device.

Classes vary each month, so please check out the Event Calendar and the Blog for this month’s offerings. Pre-registration is required for Calhoun-Gordon computer classes—just drop by the library or call to register.

All of our branches offer photocopying and printing services using standard 8 ½” by 11 (letter-sized) paper as well as scanning to either a flash drive or to email.

Events

Family Passes

Each of the family passes can be checked out once per year per library card. None of the family passes can be placed on hold, and we cannot guarantee they will be available. Please call in advance to make sure the pass is available.

 

  • Alliance Theatre — free pass for up to four (4) free admissions to single performance.
    • Check out the pass from the library.
    • Use the code on the pass to purchase tickets for a performance within fourteen (14) days at alliancetheatre.org. Note: Promo code must be entered before selecting the performance.
    • Present the pass along with the receipt from the online ticket purchase.
    • Pass may only be used once per checkout, and must be used within the seven (7) day checkout period, including one (1) renewal.
    • Pass is valid only at the Hertz or Coca-Cola stages and may not be used for classes, camps, programming, or events.
  • Atlanta History Center logoAtlanta History Center — free pass for up to six (6) free admissions to the museum.
    • Check out the pass from the library.
    • Sometime in the next seven days, go to the Atlanta History Center with the pass; pass is required to receive free admission, including for tickets purchased online using the pass’s discount code.
    • Return the pass to the library on time and in good condition.
    • The pass is for general admission only and cannot be used for special events or exhibits.
    • The pass checks out for up to seven days and can be renewed once. Overdue fines are $3.00/day. A lost pass costs $75.00 to replace.
  • Atlanta Zoo Pass – free pass for up to four (4) people to attend Zoo Atlanta.
    • Check out the video, watch it, and bring it back on time or early.
    • Receive the pass from library staff and fill it in with your name and number of attendees (up to three).
    • Sometime in the next 4 weeks (28 days), go to the zoo and get free general admission! Photo ID and the library card are required.
    • The pass is redeemable Monday – Sunday. Scheduling ahead is not required but is recommended. Please check out the website or call the zoo before visiting to see current hours and any potential restrictions. (404-624-9453; Know Before You Visit: Zoo Atlanta and the Coronavirus)
      • Blackout Dates — the pass cannot be used during most holidays.
    • Zoo Pass DVDs can be checked out for up to seven days with no renewals. Overdue fees are $0.50/day and overdue Zoo Pass DVDs are not eligible for the free pass. A lost DVD costs $30.00 to replace.
  • Georgia State Parks and Historic Sites logo, linked back to their site.Georgia State Parks & Historic Sites Pass – free pass for up to two people to visit a Georgia Historic Site or State Park, including a parking pass.
    • Check out the pass from the library.
    • Sometime in the next 7 days, visit a park or historic site and use the hang tag to get free parking. ID may be required.
    • Return the pass to the library on time and in good condition.
    • State Park Passes check out for up to seven days and can be renewed once. Overdue fines are $3.00/day. A lost pass costs $100.00 to replace.
  • Michael C Carlos Museum at Emory Promotional, linked to their website.Michael C. Carlos Museum Pass – free pass for up to six people to visit the Michael C. Carlos museum.
    • Check out the pass from the library.
    • Within the next 7 days, visit the Michael C. Carlos Museum at Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia.
    • Return the pass to the library on time and in good condition.
    • Passes check out for up to seven days. Overdue fees are $3.00/day. A lost pass costs $50.00 to replace.
    • Guided tours are available on Sundays at 2:00pm, excluding holidays.
    • Museum audio tours, special events, and programming are not covered by the pass.
    • The Michael C. Carlos Museum is open Tuesday – Friday from 10:00am-4:00pm; Saturday from 10:00am-5:00pm; Sunday from 12:00pm-5:00pm; and CLOSED on Mondays and university holidays. The museum’s contact information is 404-727-4282 and the address is 571 South Kilgo Circle NE, Atlanta, GA. Parking in the Oxford Road Parking Deck costs between $4.00 and $12.00 on weekdays and is free on the weekends. Parking costs are not included in the pass.
  • Go Fish Education logo, linked back to their site.Go Fish Education Center Passes – free pass for up to four people to visit the Go Fish Education Center in Perry, Georgia.

    • Within the next 7 days, visit the Go Fish Education Center on Friday, Saturday, or Sunday. ID is required.
    • Return the pass to the library on time and in good condition.
    • Passes check out for up to seven days. Overdue fees are $3.00/day. A lost pass costs $50.00 to replace.
  • Center for Puppetry Arts Logo, linked to their website.Center for Puppetry Arts Museum Pass – free pass for up to four to visit the Puppetry Arts Museum with discounts on show and workshop tickets.
    • Check out the pass from the library.
    • Make reservations to visit the museum at least 48 hours before you go at 404-873-3391.
    • Go to the museum! Purchase tickets for the shows or workshops if you want to attend those. ID is required.
    • Return the pass to the library on time and in good condition.
    • Passes check out for up to seven days and can be renewed once. Overdue fees are $3.00/day. A lost pass costs $50.00 to replace
  • William Breman Jewish Heritage Museum – Free pass for up to four to visit the Breman Museum for general admission.
    • Check out the pass from the library.
    • ‘Purchase’ tickets via the website and input the number of visitors in Third Party Tickets before selecting the family pass in the dropdown.
    • Visit the museum between 10am – 5pm Sunday – Thursday or 10am – 4pm on Friday. ID may be required.
    • Return the pass to the library on time and in good condition.
    • Passes check out for up to seven days and can be renewed once. Overdue fees are $3.00/day. A lost pass costs $50.00 to replace.
  • Chattahoochee Nature Center – Free pass for up to four to visit the Chattahoochee Nature Center for general admission.
    • Check out the pass from the library.
    • Call in advance to reserve a date or time to visit: 770-992-2055 (ext. 238) or email cnc.admissions@chattnaturecenter.org. You will receive a confirmation email.
    • Visit the Nature Center between 10am and 5pm Monday – Saturday with the pass. ID may be required.
    • Return the pass to the library on time and in good condition.
    • Passes check out for up to seven days and can be renewed once. Overdue fees are $3.00/day. A lost pass costs $50.00 to replace.
  • Georgia Aquarium Discounts – Discounts only available when purchased through supplied link.
    • Get $9 off your Aquarium ticket for all ages.
    • Get up to 15% off of animal encounters & special events, in-person and virtually.
  • Shakespeare Tavern – Free pass for up to four (4) free tickets to a performance at the Tavern or box seat tickets at a tiered seating performance.
    • Check out the pass from the library.
    • Visit www.shakespearetavern.com/tickets/calendar to select the show, date, and time within the next fourteen days.
    • Contact the Box Office at 404-874-5299 x0 or email them with information provided at time of check out to reserve your free tickets for the date and time requested.
    • Sometime within the next seven (or fourteen with renewal) days, present the pass at the Shakespeare Tavern Box Office to receive the free tickets.
    • Return the pass to the library on time and in good condition.
    • Tickets are for general admissions only and are available on a first-come, first serve basis and may not be available for closing weekend performances or non-Atlanta Shakespeare Company productions.
    • Tickets must be for a performance within (up to) 14 day period including the renewal and may not be used for performances beyond that time.
    • Pass may only be used once per circulation, even if renewed.
    • Passes check out for up to seven days and can be renewed once. Overdue fees are $3.00/day. A lost pass costs $60.00 to replace.

Notary

All of our branches provide notary services for $2.00 per notarization. A notary is not always available, so please call ahead to schedule a time. ID is required.

Room Reservations

Dalton-Whitfield and Calhoun-Gordon each have a meeting room space that is available for reservations. Meeting rooms are available for groups of more than three people. Dalton-Whitfield also has Tutoring/Study rooms for one to two people to use.

Test Proctoring

Each branch offers test proctoring by appointment. There is a $25.00 fee for each test, to be paid in advance. It is up to the student to schedule an appointment at least a week in advance and to get all information required by the school and by the library. Computers are available for digital tests.
