Welcome to the NGRL Learning and Technology Training Center! Classes are designed for teens and adults ages 16 and older (no children, please). All classes will be held on the lower level of the library. When you come through the library’s main entrance, take the elevator to the lower level. Classes will begin promptly at 10:00 a.m., but students may begin arriving at 9:45 a.m. Sessions will last until noon with a break at 10:50 a.m. Instructors request that while class is in session, all cell phones be placed on silent. Food or beverages are allowed during break time in designated areas away from the computers. You may wish to bring a snack. The library is a smoke free environment. We look forward to working with you as you strive to improve your employment skills. We look forward to meeting you!
Computer Basics: Getting Started – This class is targeted at beginning computer users. Learn how to use a mouse and become familiar with the keyboard. The class will provide basic instruction on performing computer tasks. No computer experience required for this class.
Computer Basics: Internet and E-mail – Learn how to access the web by using different search engines on your computer, and create your own e-mail account. This class will provide basic instruction on sending and receiving e-mails. Basic computer skills needed.
Computer Basics: Google Drive 101 – Learn how to use Google Drive. Google Drive is a single place to create, edit, access, and share documents and files. Google Drive allows you to save documents online, so you can access them from any computer with internet access.
Intermediate Computer Skills – Find out how your computer is organized. Learn how to open and save files, save files as .PDF, and how to use storage devices. Must bring own USB storage device (there will be USB devices for sale).
Library Resources: eBooks – Learn how to find, checkout, and download eBooks on your device in this class. Use your NGRL PINES card and your PINES password to log-in to the Overdrive Site and download eBooks 24-7. If you have a device or laptop, please bring it with you to class.
Library resources: Zinio and OneClickDigital – Learn how to download digital magazines and digital audiobooks to your portable device or have it streamed on your computer. Just sign up for an account using your library card! If you have a device or laptop, please bring it with you to class. These services do not work with e-ink readers.
How To: Facebook and Social Media – Join us to get connected! Learn how to create a Facebook account, maximize your profile, and how to build and interact with a network of friends. This class will provide basic understanding and tools/applications of Facebook. Basic computing skills required.
How To: Microsoft Office – This class will focus ont he basics of creating and editing a Word document. Learn the basic formatting tools to create an ideal document.Basic computing skills required.
Note: Class attendance is important as there is a limit on the number of students per class.
