Biography

The biographies are along the back wall of the adult section. They are in alphabetical order by the last name of the person they are about.

Large print

Large print books are available in fiction, non-fiction, and biography. They are on shelves in front of the shelves containing the fiction books.

New Books

The library’s newest books are on a separate shelf between the fiction and non-fiction sections.

Audio books

Fiction audio books are in order by author’s last name; non-fiction audios are in Dewey decimal order. All audiobooks are on CD or on MP3-CD. MP3-CDs require special CD-players to work, and are shelved separately.

Audio books can be checked out for two weeks at a time and can be renewed twice if no one has put them on hold.

Video Cassettes and DVDs

The library’s videocassettes and DVDs are between the circulation desk and the young adult area. The two types of video are interfiled. Most of the television series DVDs are along the back wall of the video section. They are in alphabetical order by title. The fiction movies are also mostly in alphabetical order by title. (The words “a”, “an”, and “the” at the beginning of a title are not used in alphabetizing. For example, the DVD of “A Walk in the Clouds” is filed with the W’s, not the A’s.)

The non-fiction videos, which include documentaries, exercise videos, cooking shows, and other how-to videos, are shelved after the fiction movies. They are in order by Dewey decimal number. (Look under Adult Non-fiction above for Dewey decimal categories.)

Video cassettes and DVDs check out for one week at a time and can be renewed twice if no one has put them on hold.

Music CDs

Music CDs are located on a display rack. They check out for two weeks and can be renewed twice if not on hold.

World Language

The world language area contains books and other materials in Spanish. It is located in front of the large print shelves.

Magazines and Newspapers

Most of the magazines available for check out or use in the library come from generous donations. At this time, the library does not subscribe to any magazines. We receive the Dalton Daily Citizen and the Chattanooga Free Press newspapers each day, and those are available for use in the library, but not for checkout.
