CG – Singing Appalachia for the Family

Calhoun-Gordon County Library will be hosting Joseph Evans and Russell Cook for Singing Appalachia for the Family on Saturday, October 15, 2016 at 1:00pm

Singing Appalachia is sponsored by the Georgia String Band Festival and Gordon County Fiddlers’ Convention, which for more than 10 years has drawn crowds to the Harris Arts Center in late April. All ages welcome.

CG – Basket-Making Workshop for Adults (Pre-Registration Required)

Calhoun-Gordon County Library will be hosting Tisa Barton for an adult workshop: Basket-making on Wednesday, October 12, 2016 from 1:00pm to 6:00pm

This workshop will help adults create a simple breadbasket in about 5 hours. All materials and the costs related to the program have been donated by the Harris Arts Center and Shaw Industries. Pre-registration is required due to the class’s limited size.

CG – Dulcimer and Mandolin Concert for all ages

Calhoun-Gordon County Library will be hosting several musicians on Tuesday, October 11, 2016 at 3:30pm

Come hear Kathy Sproull, Janice Smith, and Jim & Sherry Patterson as they provide a musical performance which includes Appalachian instruments, the Dulcimer and the Mandolin.

CG – Teen & Adult Appalachian Papermaking Workshop (Pre-Registration Required)

Calhoun-Gordon County Library wil be working with Karli Land to present a teen and adult workshop: Appalachian Papermaking on Saturday, October 8, 2016 at 1:00pm

Karli land will be leading a teen and adult workshop on papermaking that has an Appalachian twist. The class size will be limited, so pre-registration is required.

CG – Writing Workshop with John Shivers

Calhoun-Gordon County Library will be hosting John Shivers for a writing workshop on Saturday, October 1, 2016 from 10:30am – 2:00pm

Join local Author John Shivers as he teaches us about writing about the Appalachian region and its distinct customs and mores. This is a great workshop to attend if you’re planning to enter our Appalachian Writing Contest, which has a submission deadline of October 17 by 6:00pm. All ages are welcome.

Participants are encouraged to bring your lunch and participate in a “Lunch and learn” session. Pre-registration is encouraged.

CG – Computer Class: Excel 102 (Pre-Registration Required)

Calhoun-Gordon County Library presents a computer class: Excel 102 on Wednesday, September 28, 2016 from 10:30am – 11:45am

We’ll learn about the basic functions, and how to use the spreadsheets to do simple math.

CG – Family Story Teller: Jane Cunningham

Calhoun-Gordon County Library presents an all ages event: Storyteller Jane Cunningham on Tuesday, September 27, 2016 from 4:00pm – 5:30pm

Come sit a spell and hear “Miss Jane” spin a story with an Appalachian theme.

Jane Owen Cunningham is guaranteed to bring a smile to your face and a memory to your heart! Her enduring sense of humor and irresistible Southern charm make her “Miss Jane Stories” an enchanting experience for all audiences.

“Miss Jane”, born and raised in Mississippi, graduated cum laude from Mississippi University for Women and received her Master’s Degree in Early Childhood Education from Berry College in Georgia. A love of stories lead Jane to her work as a storyteller, workshop leader, and media specialist at Berry College Elementary School. At Berry she works with kindergarten through eighth grade and college students in the school of education. Jane Cunningham has delighted audiences in Jonesborough, TN at the National Storytelling Festival as an Exchange Place Teller and as the Storyteller in Residence for the International Story Telling Center. “Northerners and Southerners” were captivated by her stories at the Washington Storyteller’s Theatre in Washington, D.C. “Hiss Jane” has performed at the Alliance Theatre, Winter Storytelling Festival, the Carter Center and the National Storytelling Convention in Atlanta, GA.

Calhoun-Gordon County Library presents a computer class: Excel 101 on Tuesday, September 27, 2016 from 10:30am – 11:45am

Excel is a Microsoft Office Product that is designed to help users with managing large amounts of data, especially numbers. It uses spreadsheets to help create budgets, track statistics and more.
